Chapter 5 – Thoughts to Live By
Happiness comes from inside.
-
This is absolutely true.
Accentuate the positive. or Every cloud has a silver lining. or Always focus on the bright side.
- Happiness comes from seeing the good parts or results of every thing or event. No event or thing makes us feel the way we do. It's the thought process we go through and a decision we make that determines our reaction. If we always "accentuate the positive", we become virtually immune to unhappiness. It's not what happens that counts, it's how you let what happens affect you that counts.
Only tell the truth.
- Truth is natural. It's what we all expect and want. And it simplifies things so much. If you never lie, you can relax so much more. And, deep inside, we hate ourselves when we lie. But of course, we simply transfer the hate to the person who "made" us lie. Not really the best cement for our relationships.
Forgiveness is not
for them, it's for you.
- Forgive yourself and everyone else about the past. Whatever happened, happened. It's over and nothing will ever change it. You can and should learn lessons from it, but never carry it as a burden. If you find yourself saying, "If I could go back ..." or "If only..." then stop that thought and toss it out immediately. Don't permit your guilt and subconscious hang-ups to ruin your life, which is exactly what these thoughts tend to do.
You get what you expect.
- So you’d better “Expect good things to happen.”
- You're earning what you think you're worth.
You are in control of your life. Everything’s Your Responsibility. Nothing’s Your Fault.
- Don't wait for things to happen. Take action. When you encounter an Obstacle, Get Resourceful
As long as you blame someone else, you'll never be in charge of your life or solve your problems.
All Problems are Problems of Imagination. All Solutions are Solutions of Imagination.
Sometimes you have to be the first to hug.
You get what you give.
Your subconscious plays a large role in your success.
- Give yourself permission to succeed. Picture yourself as you will be when you have succeeded.
